Flying the flag next to the church
In churches and monasteries it is common to see a Greek flag together with a yellow flag with an eagle with two heads and crown.
This symbol was first used at the end of the byzantine empire in clothes and accoutrements.
Later on it was adopted as a flag.
The yellow flag is a symbol of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Constantinople and his territories such as Mount Athos, the Dodecanese, Crete and the Greek diaspora around the world.
