Dormition of the Mother of God 15 August

August 15th is one of the biggest celebrations for the Greek Orthodox Church. Celebrations are held everywhere in Greece and in every Orthodox nation.

In Patmos church services are held on the 14th and 15th including the procession of Megali Panagia in Chora just next to the monastery of St. John.

Part of the service is held outside with a procession on the narrow alley of the Chora.

The Abbot and the monks of the monastery take part of this event.

In the evening of 15th a panigiri is held at the church of Panagia Geranou at the end of the island.
